Journal Article 2022 01 04 Problem statement: Air pollution is one of the major challenges of urban management in Tehran. Nowadays, the problem of air pollution and traffic congestion in the metropolis of Tehran, like most major cities in the world, is quite concerning. Land use and transportation are two main sectors that have a maximum contribution to environmental pollution. Research objective: The impetus of this article is to investigate the urban land use efficiency, the distribution of land use, and their impact on transportation and pollutants. For this purpose, the following question was raised: What has been the impact of urban land-use efficiency and distribution of land use in Tehran on transportation and air pollution over the last two decades? Research method: The present paper is a real-life case study for which data was collected through documentary-library, municipal data, and satellite images. In this study, Landsat satellite images, ENVI 5.3, ArcGIS 10.8, Google Earth Pro, and SPSS 24 were used. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate the expansion of Tehran, the loss of vegetation,and their transformation into built lands. Over the past two decades, the growth of the built-up area in Tehranhas exceeded the population growth which indicates the inefficiency of the land during this period. In other words, the expansion of the city has been more towards the suburbs with low population density. The study of the correlation between land use types during the period 2004-2016 indicates the scattered growth of Tehran. In such situations, residents use more private cars, which increases traffic congestion, fuel consumption, and air pollution. بیان مسئله: آلودگی هوای تهران یکی از چالش‌‌های عمدة مدیریت شهری است. امرزوه مشکل آلودگی هوا و تراکم ترافیک درکلانشهر تهران مانند بیشتر شهرهای بزرگ کشورهای جهان بسیار نگران‌کننده است. در این میان کاربری زمین و حمل و نقل دو بخش عمده هستند که دارای بیشترین سهم در آلودگی محیط زیست می‌باشند. هدف پژوهش: انگیزة این مقاله، بررسی کارایی کاربری زمین شهری، نحوة توزیع کاربری‌ها و تأثیر آنها بر حمل و نقل و آلاینده‌ها است. بدین منظور این سوال مطرح شد که تاثیر کارایی کاربری زمین شهری و توزیع کاربری‌های شهر تهران بر حمل و نقل و آلودگی هوا در دو دهه اخیر به چه صورت بوده است؟ روش پژوهش: پژوهش حاضر به لحاظ هدف کاربردی بوده و گردآوری اطلاعات به صورت اسنادی-کتابخانه‌ای، داده‌های شهرداری و تصاویر ماهواره‌ای انجام شده است. در این تحقیق از تصاویر ماهواره لندست و نرم‌افزارهای تخصصیENVI53، ArcGIS 10 ،Google Earth Pro وSPSS 24 استفاده شد. نتیجه‌گیری: نتایج این پژوهش، بیانگر گسترش شهر تهران، از بین رفتن پوشش گیاهی و تبدیل آنها به اراضی ساخته‌شده است. شهر تهران طی دو دهة گذشته، از نظر مساحت ساخته شدة شهر رشد بیشتری نسبت به رشد جمعیت داشته است، که بیانگر ناکارآمدی زمین طی این دورة زمانی است. به عبارتی گسترش شهر بیشتر به سمت حاشیه با تراکم جمعیتی کم بوده است. بررسی همبستگی میان انواع کاربری زمین طی دورة زمانی2016- 2004، حاکی از رشد پراکندة شهر تهران است. در چنین شرایطی ساکنین بیشتر از خودرو شخصی استفاده می‌کنند که این امر باعث افزایش ازدحام ترافیکی، مصرف بالای سوخت و تشدید آلودگی هوا می‌شود.
