The truth comes from one single source and spreads in all levels of the existence. In this descending journey the meaning reduces its originality and takes the forms which are commensurate with every level of existence and appear in the form of the world it emerges in. The divine truth is the origin of the Tradition; and the Tradition cannot be separated from the divine truth. Apprehending and understanding the divine truth is possible only to the Traditional man and one who has no understanding of the divine truth is not able to apprehend the tradition.
One of the old art traditions, which is the outcome of progressive evolution of Shiite mourning ceremonies in more than 15 centuries, is the Coffeehouse painting, which emerged in the early 20th century. In the Coffeehouse paintings the same divine truth is realized; and when the truth is realized, the art appears. What give originality to these works of art are the divine truth and the inner aspects of the work revealed by the artist in a corporal form and disclosed in form of allegories. The artist acts as a mystic who unveils the truth and experiences a world. Coffeehouse painting is not an amateur art or skill; it is evolved on the ground of knowledge and principles which are the source of inspiration, and its origin is beyond the singular and independent human intellect. In this art, the artist merely conveys the blessings sourced by the world of meaning. In terms of the Tradition of art, Coffeehouse paintings are the continuation of miniature paintings, and therefore belong to the Islamic civilization, and have emerged and evolved in the realm of Islamic and oriental traditions. Coomaraswamy believes that in the realm of Traditions an artist is not a special man, but every man is a special artist.
The present study tends to explain the divine truth of art based on the thoughts of Ananda Coomaraswamy (the traditional thinker) and show its relation to the Coffeehouse paintings. The research assumption is that in the thoughts of Coomaraswamy the divine truth is the same divine origin, thinking of which revives the eternal typical form inside us. According to Coomaraswamy the Coffeehouse seems to be the manifestation of the divine truth and allegoric forms which the artist creates based on his intellectual and serving activities. This study is a theoretic and qualitative research and the information are collected through study of the library documents and sources.
