Present research aims to have a review on the theoretical foundations of home in the current era and contemporary architecture, through a semantic approach and with reference to the Quranic terminology and concepts related to home. Therefore with referring to the Quran and extracting Quranic terminology associated with home, itinitially tries to extract concepts integrated with meaning of home from Quran's perspective.The keyword "calmness" which roots in"sokkn"that is closely associated with "sakine" and "sokounat" is a new hatch toestablish a different understanding of meaning of home.Therefore the main approach of this study is, according to the exact wording ofQuran in which home is referred to as Sakineh from the root verb of "Sokkn" ,meaning calmness, that ishuman settles where which gives him calmness, to discover the fundamental capacity and institutions of home which are sources of peace and comfort.
Moreover, In extracting and understanding the meaning of calmness, resortingto Quran and the holy verse "Now surely by Allah's remembrance are the hearts set at rest (surah al rad 28) " leadsthe research towards adifferent meaning of "home"."Mozakker" home is the home in which remembrance and praise of God is the source of calmness in the hearts.In the next step, the geometry (size) of the home and factors such as the nature which cause human settlement and God's remembrance, are searched, so that in the present time in which the range of quantity and materialism have dominated the entirety of our lives, unmatched qualities of home help us to design homes in such a way that theyfully containerizes the fact of life.In the meantime, thefollow questions are answered. What is a settlement? Or how a physical place provides calmness and comfort of human according to the three dimensions of human existence (body, ego and soul)?And whether calmness and comfort are at a same level or are at the different level? Whether the physical space which provides human comfort, necessarily provides calmness as well or the direction is the opposite in this habitability;what is the role and the nature of geometry as one of the infrastructure (motifs) of building houses? And what is the role of architect and his approach to nature and natural elements in designing a home?
This research has been developed in several chapters. The first chapter provides an overview and background for this study.In the second chapter the status and meanings of home in Qur'an are reviewed, and extracted from the Quran.In the third chapter, through the extraction "calmness" as a keyword, among meanings associated with settlement home in Qur'an, related concept and meaning of calmness inQur'an are investigated. Finally, referring to the holy verse ("Now surely by Allah's remembrance are the hearts set at rest (surah al rad 28) ") remembrance and praise of Godas the main cause of calmness, manifested in architecture of homos, is investigated.In the fourth chapter,manifestation of calmness and remembrance of God in the nature and the realm of divine creation and the role of geometry in this remembrance are addressed. The final chapter examines how the geometry of "Mozakker" is presented in architecture inspired by nature, and instances of such architectures are offered.
