Tranquility at Home
An Inquiry on Tranquility at Home from Islamic Perspective in Two Patterns of Apartments and Detached Houses with Courtyards in Kerman
Problem statement: One of the most important functions of a home is to provide comfort to its residence. The importance of this issue is such that Ayah 80 of Surah An- Nahl explicitly emphasizes the need for the home to be soothing for its residence. However, how to achieve this meaning about home has been less studied in specialized texts, particularly in the field of architecture. This issue is of particular importance concerning contemporary homes, whose residents consider it as a place of rest and relaxation more than ever due to the various problems of urban life.Research objectives: in the present study, besides investigating the views of scholars and theorists of architecture and environmental psychology, tries to extract the factors of creating tranquility from Islamic viewpoint and its adoption with the house residents’ current spatial-behavioral models. Based on this, in this study, the tranquility reliability in two current models of contemporary houses including apartments and detached houses with yard will be investigated.Research method: The research method in the present study is a descriptive and analytical method which in addition to examining the theories of researchers and theorists of architecture and environmental psychology, tries to extract the factors of relaxation from the Islamic point of view and its adaptation to current spatial-behavioral patterns. The research process was carried out in such a way that in the first stage, through interviews with the residence of the homes, the spatial features, environmental capabilities and current behavioral patterns in them was found. In the next step, whit the method of logical reasoning, semantic systems derived from the spatial characteristics of each pattern were found and the manifestation of three levels of tranquility including physical comfort, mental tranquility and spiritual tranquility in the desired patterns was explained. Conclusion: This article finally concluded that the metaphor of tranquility and its different levels i.e. physical comfort, mental tranquility and spiritual tranquility) is reflected in the pattern of detached houses more than the pattern of apartments, which is also affected by the variety of spatial features and environmental capabilities in this pattern of the house comparing to the apartment type.

Investigating the Role of Walls in the Dialectic of Rupture and Connection in Contemporary Houses Based on Users’ Lived Experience
Problem statement: One of the main tasks of architecture is to regulate indoor and outdoor communication. Lack of attention to this communication and coexistence between them is one of the problems that architecture faces today and the result is the lack of quality in living spaces and dissatisfaction of humans in residential spaces. The walls, as the first mediator between outside and inside, regulate this dialectic between man and environment, which have taken different forms in different periods. How walls affect the user’s perception of space from the dialectic of rupture and connection is a question that the present study seeks to understand.Research objective: This study aims to investigate the role of walls in the dialectic of rupture and connection, to develop a model based on the perception of users and explain how different factors interact in this process.Research method: The present study is qualitative with an interpretive paradigm Grounded theory method. Key informants has been selected with snowball method and sampling method is purposive theoretical with semi structured inteviews.. Data collection proceeded until reaching to theoretical saturation and was analyzed and three step coded in Max QDA software with the systematic method of Strauss and Corbin and presented in the form of Creswell paradigm model. Conclusion: The obtained model showed that the dialectical change of rupture and connection, is dependent on the time-space context and is the result of the interaction of various factors. In this regard, the central phenomenon of the obtained model, called the wall monologue, reflectsthe fuzzy perception of the users from the role of walls in the dialectic of rupture and connection. This means that in the range of rupture and connection of today’s houses, the perception of users, is in the range of “more rupture than connection”, while the individual parameters, were recognized as the most effective parameter in the perception process.

Mobile Ta’ziyeh in the City Scene:
Semiotic Study of Mobility in Ziaber Ta’ziyeh
Problem statement: Mobile Ta’ziyeh is regarded as one of the kinds of traditional Iranian theatre in which the scenes are performed not in a permanent place, but on a certain path. The present study aims to investigate how the discourse of Ta’ziyeh is formed in connection with the displacement of spatial boundaries and how this displacement emerges as a process that turns Ta’ziyeh into a performance with transformative function. In the current article, the interaction between the discourse of Ziaber Mobile Ta’ziyeh (case study) and the discourse of the city is studied. Also, the effects of performing Ta’ziyeh on the urban areas of Ziaber are investigated semiotically.Research objectives: The main purpose of this article is to identify the semiotic aspects of mobility in the Ta’ziyeh and its function in the transformation of urban places and spaces.Research method: The present article has been conducted through a qualitative method based on the Paris school semiotics. The research approach is derived from post-Gremassian tradition and is the result of the transition from structuralist and classical semiotics to semiotics based on “body”, “perception” and “presence” with a phenomenological background. Conclusion: The course of Ta’ziyeh Ziaber is formed by joining the three main locations of this city (cemetery, the main street, and house of Ayatollah Ziaberi). By examining the mobile nature of this Ta’ziyeh, it becomes clear how the mentioned places became narrative and move away from their previous functions and roles so that this cause transforms of places, spaces and also the transcendence of the city during the performance of Ta’ziyeh.

Co-designers’ Interaction: A Network Based Approach
Problem statement: Architectural co-design has been facilitated through the development of digitalism. This has shifted to a new paradigm which has evolved the understanding of design process. As a result, design process has been changed in both technical and philosophical aspects and co-design, consequently, has acknowledged The Other in the design process. Accordingly, design is formed by interaction of at least two simultaneous networks.
Research objectives: This paper aims to focus on design as a socio-technical process by analyzing dimensions of actors, quality of network dialogue and the process of network in co-design.
Research methods: The Actor-Network Theory is applied to study the actors of co-design process. The quality of network dialogues is examined by analyzing texts and different types of networks and their impact on design process are determined by comparing two co-design cases. Thus, the paper is using a qualitative approach to redefine each node in the design process.
Conclusion: Different actors, human and non-human ones, shape the overall interactions of co-designers. Using network approach as a theoretical base for this interaction, revealedorstd four main elements in the design process: acceptability of The Other, criticism-tolerance, sharing personality, and collective intentionality. On the other hand, results from the two co-design case studies demonstrated insights on socio-technical approach of design and its impacts on other co-designer’s network relationship.

Reading the Multiple Discourses of the Eighth Biennial of Iranian National Painting Based on Manuel Castells’ Theory of Culture
Problem statement: Today, the rapid growth of technology and communication technologies has inevitably transformed human life and shaped concepts, viewpoints, and lifestyles. According to Manuel Castells’ theory of culture, in today’s world, technological developments and the emergence of new media are essential factors in social and cultural changes and the creation of multiple discourses in societies. But the problem of the present study is different aspects of the new culture from Castells perspective on the works of the eighth biennial of Iranian national painting (2011), that aspects such as multiple discourses, independence from regional geography and self-selection and self-production of cultural content are important issues for the artist and are reflected in their work. Research objectives: This study investigates the works of the eighth biennial based on modern communication processes and the formation of spontaneous mass communication using Castells’ theory in explaining culture in the era of communication. Because ongoing discourses are important factors in shaping the culture of a society and creating works of art of any period, this article seeks to examine the multiple discourses of the eighth biennial of painting, based on Castells’ theory of culture. Research method: The research method is descriptive-analytical, analyzes have been done qualitatively and the statistical population of the research includes 186 works of the eighth biennial of National Painting of Iran (2011).Conclusion: Based on Castells’ theory that the technology revolution and the spread of information have transformed all levels of society, this paper proves that free and quick access to the wide range of cultural data and contents caused most of the participating artists in the biennial to choose the content of their works individually and experience self-selection and self-production of cultural content in this era.

Explaining the Role of Temporary Retail Shops in the Environmental Quality of Urban Walkways
Problem statement: Malls, megamalls and large shopping centers are continuously expanding and a lot of people visit these spaces everyday but despite the huge costs the construction of such spaces imposes on the city, they cannot fulfill attracting the people and do not have much prosperity due to many reasons such as social and cultural conditions. Environmental studying of temporary retail shops in urban spaces, especially walkways, is nowadays discussed and studied extensively from the socioeconomic viewpoint.
Research objective: The study aims to analyze and assess the role of establishing temporary retail shops and informal markets from the viewpoint of the beneficiary and influential groups in the changes of environmental quality in urban walkways.
Research method: This research was conducted with a qualitative approach, relying on the grounded theory methodology. The initial data were collected through continuous observation and 47 in-depth and semi-structured interviews with pedestrians, permanently-stationed shopkeepers, retailers, urban experts and managers. The interviewees commuted or did business in one of the famous walkways in the historical city of Isfahan in Iran. Then, a number of categories were extracted from the data by coding and recollecting.
Conclusion: The results highlighted seven axial codes and seven core categories for assessing retail shops within the framework of the grounded theory. The seven core categories in the assessment of the quality of urban spaces and walkways as the thematic network are social interactions, activity conformity, microscale economic mobility, multilayered perceptions, balanced visual composition, environmental suitability and targeted control.
